About Hook Up Wire

Hook-up wire (also called appliance wiring material, or AWM) is used for internal wiring of electrical and electronic equipment, control panels, instruments, and appliances. Mid America Wire & Cable stocks the most-specified UL styles including UL1007 (300V, 80°C PVC), UL1015 (600V, 105°C PVC), UL1061 (300V, 80°C SR-PVC), UL1571 (150V, 105°C), and many others. Hook-up wire is typically stranded tinned copper for flexibility and solderability, and is available in VW-1 flame-rated PVC and cross-linked (XLPE) insulations. All of our hook-up wire is CSA TR-64 and UL AWM certified, and we can provide documentation on every part number.

Hook Up Wire — Frequently Asked Questions

The right UL style depends on voltage rating, temperature rating, and mechanical requirements. UL1007 (300V, 80°C) is the most economical choice for low-voltage internal wiring. UL1015 (600V, 105°C) is the workhorse for panel wiring and motor leads. UL1571 (150V, 105°C) is used inside appliances. For high-temperature or chemical resistance, look at XLPE styles like UL3266 (300V, 150°C). Our sales team can help you cross-reference a legacy part number to a current UL style.

Most hook-up wire is stranded tinned copper for flexibility and ease of soldering. We can also supply solid conductors in certain styles on request. Common stranding ranges from 7-strand (moderate flexibility) to 41-strand and 105-strand for highly flexible cables.

Most of our UL1007, UL1015, and UL1061 stock is available in 10+ standard colors — black, white, red, green, blue, yellow, orange, brown, violet, gray — and in striped configurations. Less common colors (pink, tan, etc.) are available on short lead times.

We sell hook-up wire in bulk 1000-foot spools and in cut lengths. Most items have no minimum cut length and can be shipped same-day from our Tulsa warehouse.
