What the Ratings Mean in Practice
The 300V rating covers the low-voltage side of most equipment: logic circuits, sensor runs, LED drivers, anything downstream of the power supply. The 80°C rating is the one to watch. Inside a sealed enclosure that sits in the sun or next to a transformer, ambient plus temperature rise can crowd 80°C faster than you'd think. When that happens, step up to UL1015 (105°C) or an XLPE style like UL 3266 (125°C).
The thin 0.016" wall is UL1007's real selling point. It routes easily, takes tight bends, and packs dense in wire duct — on a 16 AWG conductor, UL1007 is roughly half the insulation thickness of UL1015. Panel shops that fight for enclosure space standardize on it for everything under 300V.
Where UL1007 Is the Right Call
- Electronics and PCB-to-chassis wiring
- LED lighting and signage
- Instrumentation, sensors, and signal runs
- Computer, telecom, and appliance internals
- Control panel wiring on the low-voltage side

Reading a UL1007 Callout
A typical order line reads like "UL1007 18 AWG, 16/30 tinned copper, red, 1000 ft spool." Four choices to make:
- Gauge — sized for the signal or load current.
- Solid or stranded — stranded for anything that moves or vibrates; solid mostly for breadboard and telecom punch-downs.
- Bare or tinned copper — tinned solders faster and shrugs off humidity; it's the default for most electronics work.
- Color — UL1007 stocks in the full color range, and shops standardize colors by circuit function.
Much of what sells today is dual-marked UL1007/1569, so one spool satisfies either callout. If your print lists a single style number, match it exactly — inspectors read the legend printed on the insulation.
