Wire Weight Calculator

Pick a size, choose the construction, enter your length, and get pounds per foot and total weight. Covers bare copper, THHN, XHHW-2, and aluminum from 14 AWG through 1000 kcmil.

How This Calculator Works

Wire weight is published in pounds per 1000 feet. The calculator multiplies the published weight for your chosen size and construction by your length (and by the number of conductors, for multi-conductor pulls) to give total pounds and pounds per foot.

Bare conductor weights come from the standard AWG tables. THHN and XHHW-2 weights are nominal manufacturer catalog values; the exact number varies a few percent between brands depending on stranding and wall thickness. Reel or spool weight is not included — add roughly 30 to 250 lbs for a wooden reel depending on size.

Use these results for freight estimates, tray load planning, and material takeoffs. For engineering documents, confirm against the spec sheet of the exact product you're buying — our team can pull that for any item we quote.
